Group 2 | Voyage à Nantes [2024]

Arrivée en France !

On our way to Lochnagar Crater, a quick stop in Compiègne to grab so lunch at the boulangerie. Everyone is doing well, the food is amazing and spring flowers are blooming everywhere!

À Amiens

First night in Amiens. All rested. Yesterday we managed to visit the Historial de la Grande Guerre in Péronne and walked to the Youth Hostel from the Amiens Cathedral. Today we are heading to Arras and Vimy Ridge. It stopped raining!

World War I sites

Yesterday we went to the Wellington Tunnels in the footsteps of British WW1 soldiers and then visited Vimy Ridge. We read excerpts from « All quiet on the Western Front » in the trenches. Back to Amiens, students did an amazing job sharing new French vocabulary they had noted over the day. We went to bed early. Today is Chenonceaux, and tonight we meet our hosts in Nantes!

À Chenonceaux

Beautiful weather at Chenonceau Castle! We arrived on time in Nantes where all corrès were waiting eagerly for us! We are up to our first day at school and first weekend with families. On Monday we’ll share sketches and Journal entries.

À Nantes

All is well! We finally have seen some sunshine! Last night, we had a lovely reception given by the mayor at the town hall. This morning, the students discovered Nantes thanks to a treasure hunt in small groups. Tonight, we will all gather for the potluck.

We visited the Château des Ducs de Bretagne. Yesterday was a half school day and students were busy doing their presentations in classes in the morning, before spending their afternoon gathering with their corrès’ friends. As I write, we are on the TER heading to the Medieval village of Clisson for the day. It’s a beautiful day with temperatures in the high 60s.

Today was all about Nantes. We visited Le Musée Jules-Verne with a guided tour en français s’il- vousplaît, then walked through Le jardin extraordinaire, with a waterfall, giant water plants, banana trees, large-leaf vegetation, and even tree ferns, all participate in creating an atmosphere where visitors experience “the out-of-the-ordinary, the enormous — just like with Jules Verne.” Navibus took us back by water. Students spent a lot of time sketching along the day as they were submitting for the sketching contest at 4PM, “Nantes through my eyes”. Prizes to be announced on Monday!
